Carlisle Hospital
For nearly a century, the Carlisle Hospital complex occupied a block of land in the southwest section of Carlisle. The limestone, landmark building was razed in 2007 following a decision by the hospital board to sell the hospital to Health Management Associates, Inc.
Christmas in Carlisle 1946
No sooner was Thanksgiving dinner over than peoples thoughts turned to Christmas. There were cards to buy and address, cookies to bake, Christmas tree decorations to get down from the attic, presents to buy, and grocery shopping to do.

Catharine MacCaffray (Women in World War II)
This is an oral history conducted by Steven Burg with Catharine MacCaffray at her home in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, on June 20, 2002 as part of the Cumberland County Women During World War Two Oral History Project. MacCaffray discusses her experience as a volunteer nurse's aid for the American Red Cross in various hostitals in Carlisle. MacCaffray further talks about other various experiences including working at C. H. Masland's, seeing German POWs, and rationing.
Charles Henry Masland (1841-1934)
Charles Henry Masland, founder of C. H. Masland & Sons, was born on December 15, 1841, in Germantown, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Along with his father and three of his brothers, he served in the Union Army in the Civil War.
Frank Elmer Masland Jr. (1895-1994)
Frank Elmer Masland Jr. was a prominent industrialist, conservationist, explorer, philanthropist and pillar of the Carlisle community throughout the twentieth century. Born to Frank Elmer Masland and Mary Esther Gossler on December 8, 1895, he was the grandson of Charles Henry Masland, founder of the Carlisle carpet company C. H. Masland & Sons.
