Adam Sheaffer: [00:00:26] And when and why did you join the Navy?

Gilbert Williams: [00:00:29] Well I got out of high school, when I joined. There was nothing up where I lived in the cold region and hardcore region. There was nothing there. So high school and went right into the service. I was only out of high school for one week and I was in the service.

Adam Sheaffer: [00:00:51] And during your time in the Navy?

Gilbert Williams: [00:00:54] I was in the service from 1948 to 1959.

Gilbert Williams: [00:01:16] Excuse me?

Adam Sheaffer: [00:01:16] What were some lessons you learned during your time in the Navy?

Gilbert Williams: [00:01:19] Some of the places? I was in Rhode Island, Jacksonville, Florida, two years in Morocco. So many military cruises.

Adam Sheaffer: [00:01:45] And what were some lessons you learned during your time in the Navy?

Gilbert Williams: [00:01:50] I learned a lot. I learned what people really were, different aspects of people in the world. So what you have here, how much you appreciate it. You have to find that. But see other types of types of living. The only foreign countries are very fortunate. And very proud to serve as a service to.

Adam Sheaffer: [00:02:27] And after the Navy, what did you do after you left the Navy?

Gilbert Williams: [00:02:33] I went to work for civil service then. Started work at Fort Indiantown Gap. Went to Middletown. That's where I finished up at.

Adam Sheaffer: [00:02:56] And what were some of your favorite memories during your time in the Navy?

Gilbert Williams: [00:03:03] I learned a lot what this world is about. A lot of great people and there's a long living conditions. We don't, people in this country don't appreciate what we have to live. When I was in Morocco, 15-20 people sleeping on their floors and stuff like that.

Adam Sheaffer: [00:03:46] And what is some advice that you would give to the younger generations?

Gilbert Williams: [00:03:54] Excuse me?

Adam Sheaffer: [00:03:54] What is some advice that you would give to the younger generations?

Gilbert Williams: [00:04:01] Number one, we are American citizens and we need to learn what we have, and to appreciate what we have and what this country does for us. People don't appreciate that today. They had to serve in the military to see what aspects of what other life is like, not just what this life is like. That's how I feel.

Adam Sheaffer: [00:04:30] Do anything else that you would like to add or anything?
